As resident dance band for well-known Sydney tango specialist Anne-Maree Therkelson - currently residing in NZ - they were
greatly involved in working with dance improvisation as well as being invited to play concert material on many occasions including
concert and workshop at Newcastle Conservatorium and Eastside Arts in Paddington.
They have been resident tango band for The National Folk Festival in Canberra, played at Illawarra Folk Festival TangoSynergy's
WInter Solstice at the beautiful Carrington Hotel in the Blue Mountains a number of times and were streamed to the web for Fete
de la Musique's world wide web.
Tangocentric are skilled and passionate musicians who combine rhythm, melody and fun into one tight package whether it be
tango or jazz tunes. The line-up features violin, guitar, double bass, vocals. They have recently often teamed up with Alturas to
create a tango big band with the addition of flute sax and piano for those bigger concert/milonga occasions.
With a unique voice crossing genres of Irish tenor, cool jazz, classical and contemporary, Ben also accesses a sublime falsetto extension soaring to heights that would match any soprano.
Ben also has a background in Theatre and Circus arts performing at the Sydney Olympics opening Ceremony and appearing on the blockbuster film "Moulin Rouge." Ben moved to Switzerland in 2008 and studied voice with the daughter of well known Romanian composer Pascale Bentoiu - Madame Ioana Bentoiu. Here he performed at the Fete de la Musique in Lausanne as well as the ONE YEAR ONLY and LE BOURG caberet venues.
